Students who have completed the basic Residential Networking course are now ideally placed to study this more advanced course which builds upon the knowledge and skills previously gained.

With residential networks becoming more complex it is vital that home integration engineers fully understand and can confidentially install networks that are robust and secure. This course delivers the knowledge and skills required to start building more complex networks.

Topics covered include:

  • File sharing between IP connected devices
  • Remote access with Dynamic DNS
  • The client-server model
  • Ports and services
  • Access to LAN devices from the WAN via Port Forwarding
  • Securing external access using VPNs (Virtual Private Networks)
  • Understanding basic subnets
  • Diving Networks using vLANs (Virtual LANs)
  • Configuring network segmentation
  • Multicasting/Broadcasting, flooding and storm control, RSTP
  • The roles for hardware, software and wetware

Entry requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements to attend this course, however this is an advanced course aimed at those with prior networking knowledge or those who have already attended the CEDIA Residential Networking course.
