Cyberhomes, April 2015 Install of the Month

CEDIA member and home automation expert, Cyberhomes, has designed, built and delivered a fully integrated home automation and entertainment system for a luxurious 12,000 ft2 Surrey home, complete with all the latest features and technology that home-buyers are increasingly looking for.
With no expense spared, the brief for this project was to maximise the opportunities presented by new technology, whilst keeping as little on show as possible – minimising any ‘wall clutter’ and retaining the impact and artistic flow of the interior design. The whole house was to be immaculately finished with all technology fitting seamlessly into the luxurious design of the home, and keeping it family friendly and manageable via intuitive control panels.  Additionally, with such a large space to work with, lighting was an integral part of the property’s technical overhaul.

Cyberhomes, install of the monthCyberhomes designed a clever solution, incorporating a Lutron lighting control system with 157 circuits, managing every light in the property (both internal and external). This allows the user to dim or switch on and off any light on the property via Control4 touchscreens, iPhones or discreet local wall panels located around the home. Pre-set options have been programmed to create bespoke lighting moods or put the house in holiday mode to mimick the occupiers’ daily routine and creating the impression that the house is occupied. With style oozing from the home, 57 custom engraved switch plates were commissioned to match the sophistication of the technology used. In-keeping with the stylish interior design both inside and out, the whole house is artistically lit with atmospheric external lighting enhancing the swimming pool area and landscaped gardens.

As part of the desired all-encompassing integration system, an intricate multi-room AV system was installed to allow each family member to enjoy their own diverse music collection. Any of the nine Samsung televisions are enabled to stream video content from a high definition video distribution system comprising Sky HD, Virgin TiVo and Apple TV boxes, Blu-ray discs and a Kaleidescape movie server. Organised into 17 audio zones, the home features Genelec and Speakercraft’s subtle in-ceiling and in-wall speakers to provide optimal sound and listening quality anywhere in the home with minimal aesthetic intrusion.

Cyberhomes, install of the monthAt the heart of the entertainment system is the main living room. The room works as both an everyday living space and high-specification 3D home cinema. Featuring a 65” smart TV for day-to-day viewing, at the touch of a button a JVC projector descends from the ceiling and a 2.50m x 1.4m screen gently lowers in front of the TV. Fully integrated, the lights automatically dim and the motorised blinds close creating the ultimate home cinema experience with stunning picture quality and jaw-dropping surround sound.

For this client, a robust security system was of the utmost importance to protect this family home. LILIN CCTV cameras cover the entire property with a video door-entry system and remotely-operated gates at the driveway entrance to give advance notice of visitors’ arrival. A comprehensive Texecom intruder alarm system is also incorporated in the home automation system, allowing additional actions to be triggered automatically. When the intruder alarm is armed, lights can be turned off, vacation mode occupancy simulation started and heating reduced. Then, once the alarm is disarmed, an entry lighting scene automatically activates and the heating returns to comfort levels.

With this level of automation and technology, reliability and long-term performance was essential. Cyberhomes designed a dedicated rack room that accommodates two full-height Middle Atlantic racks to house all the AV sources, amplifiers, control systems and CCTV recorders; whilst two further low-height racks provide all the network switching, Wi-Fi network management and patching for all the cabling throughout the property.

Cyberhomes, Install of the monthAs a result, Cyberhomes successfully designed and installed the latest automation, entertainment and security systems, incorporating whole house lighting control (interior and exterior), multi-room audio and video, heating control, security, CCTV systems and a stunning home cinema. The simple smart technology system allows the occupier to make any adjustments throughout the house via the Control4 touchscreen panels or through the users’ smartphone.

Staying true to CEDIA member values, Cyberhomes responsibility doesn’t stop after installation. Once a project is complete, Cyberhomes monitors the high tech system remotely, alerting the owners of any system disruptions or third-party-equipment failures.
